‘Pipe’ performance is critical to service providers’ success in the SME sector

Guest post from Teresa Cottam, independent analyst, Telesperience Access to the Internet and the Cloud is already transforming and invigorating the small and medium sized enterprise (SME) sector. The Digital Economy is delivering new innovative capabilities and opportunities into the hands of SMEs, transforming the economics of doing business and helping them compete more effectively in new markets and with larger rivals. It’s important to remember though that the effect of Digital Technologies are not homogeneous in this sector. In fact, the SME sector is extremely varied in terms of its digital maturity, and this is one of the reasons […]  More >>

Will NFV crack the business segment riddle?

Service providers around the globe are looking at the mid-size business segment as one of most important potential growth engines. The old story was simple – service providers knew how to serve consumers using cookie-cutter offerings that cover most of their needs, and they knew how to tailor unique solutions for larger enterprise customers that are willing to pay a premium for such services. I can mix-and-match vegetables, salad dressings and toppings as I see fit, which I really appreciate. Some days I feel like I need protein, so I choose chicken breast. At other times I’m more in the mood to fill my bowl with sprouts and extra cucumber slices. I know I’m not unique. People crave customization. It seems like more and more consumers want things their way (although it’s not totally […]  More >>

What SMB Cable Customers Really Want

I recently attended the Future of Cable Business Services event, a one-day conference hosted by Light Reading that explored the progress of cable operators in the U.S. business telecom services market – it was informative and enjoyable. What I found most interesting, perhaps surprisingly, was a panel that had very little to do with the future of technology, called Cable Customers Speak Out. The panelists were small and medium business (SMB) customers of cable companies – actual customers! Joseph McGovern, the president of NuTech Healthcare, was cheered as he detailed his priorities, selection criteria and business philosophy of what he wants and doesn’t want from his telecom service providers.  More >>
