What will it take to become an NFV-enabled OSS?

The communications industry is undergoing an unprecedented level of change. And these changes have a profound impact on the operational aspects of today’s networks to the extent that existing operational support systems (OSS) are being forced to adapt in order to become NFV-enabled. In fact, an NFV-enabled OSS must support three key functions – hybrid networks, real-time operations and service agility. Starting with hybrid networks, with the exception of Greenfield service providers or lines of business, all operators introducing NFV will need to support existing physical networks alongside virtualization for the foreseeable future. Hybrid networks are a mixture of traditional […]  More >>

Final Day – Management World, Dublin 2012

In yesterday’s blog I mentioned how the weather in Dublin was similar to that in Nice so I was surprised to hear today that Management World would be back in Nice next year after being in Dublin for the past couple of years. Last night I attended the Amdocs Analyst dinner at the Town Bar and Grill in Dublin, a snug little cellar bar with a great atmosphere. The analysts were in fine form and great spirits after a busy day of back to back meetings. The meal was excellent and everyone felt Management World had gone well despite lower […]  More >>

Day 2 – Management World, Dublin 2012

Day 2 of Management World started with a spring in my step after a really enjoyable @amdocs party last night at the Old Jameson Distillery – it was packed out with hardly a spare seat to be had – a real success. The weather in Dublin continues to be amazing – sunny everyday which I think is adding to the vibrant atmosphere – rivalling previous events in Nice. I have attended several very interesting sessions today and heard from many interesting speakers. The Keynote session this morning by Telekom Malaysia’s  Group CEO Dato’ Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa on Delivering Malaysia’s […]  More >>

Day 1 – Management World, Dublin 2012

Today sees the main activities starting at TM Forum’s Management World in Dublin. I attended the main plenary session this morning and I was really pleased to see it packed out, which was a pleasant surprise in these tough economic times. Martin Creaner, TM Forum CEO kicked off #mwd12 with “The future is place where our children will work for companies that don’t exist” and then Keith Willetts Chairman and founder TM Forum gave a great presentation on how social media is changing the telecommunications world. I agree with his view that the enterprise market is wide open for operators […]  More >>

The Four Key Elements for Improving Time to Market

These four tips on improving time to market for service providers resulted from interviews and careful statistical analysis of Amdocs 2011 survey of 125 senior executives at wireless, wireline and cable providers from every region in the world.  Service providers can create a lean, effective, ready-to-go and automated operation by using the following four steps to implement a “service factory approach”: 1. There are also too many catalogs, […]  More >>
